SIM4MTRAN
Development of micromotility patterns
SIMulation tool for Micromobility to improve urban TRansprotation plΑΝning
The SIM4MTRAN project proposes the development of an innovative integrated decision support tool for the design of micro-mobility systems and services.
The vision
Global technological development also affected the transport sector by promoting new forms of mobility such as micro-mobility. The SIM4MTRAN project aims to develop a new generation design tool that will simulate transport interactions and assess their impact. More specifically it will examine the dynamic relationship between micro-mobility and other means of transport and provide solutions to technical. Social and administrative problems.
The implementation of the new innovative tool will consist of three parts: the theoretical evaluation framework, the simulation model tools and the guide for the design and organization of micro-mobility systems. The use of autonomous agents in the simulation models will allow the realistic modelling of traffic conditions and the interaction of vehicles with pedestrians, thus identifying factors that lead to accidents.
The purpose of the project
The aim of the project is to fill the gap in terms of the development of standards for micro-mobility and to implement its integration through a modern methodological tool. The development of a guide for the design of micro-mobility infrastructure and its integration into the urban fabric, will lead to mitigating the effects of motor traffic on the environment, reducing costs and reducing the dependency of citizens on car use. In addition, the new alternatives will improve accessibility to public transport and to urban areas by supporting a sustainable transport system as most micro-mobility vehicles support alternative forms of fuel. The use of new improved forms of energy for transportation purposes and the provision of solutions dynamically based on the needs of each network, results in the conversion of transport to greener and more sustainable forms with little or no interventions in pre-existing infrastructure.
Sustainability Performance Indicators
Prioritizing the provision of an innovative solution and the introduction of sustainability in the design of transport systems, the SIM4MTRAN project will examine key performance indicators of sustainability, with the aim of assessing the impact of electric scooters.
These indicators’ aim is to support the project objectives with focus on:
- In mitigating the effects of motor traffic on the environment
- Reducing travel costs
- Reducing the dependence of city dwellers on car use
- In the formulation of transport policies for the design of electric scooters in urban areas
The definition of these indicators is expected to promote the principles of sustainability in the design of transport systems and to ensure the functionality of the project. From the point of view of transport policy, the indicators under consideration will assess travel and environmental costs. Regarding individuals, the indicators will assess travel costs. This evaluation aims to examine whether electric scooters can be part of sustainable mobility under certain conditions without compromising the efficiency of urban transport.
